The best free WordPress themes are difficult to find. There are hundreds of free themes, but most of them are super ugly. You can see this site’s Start a Blog category to find lots of gorgeous paid themes (they don’t cost that much, and you can often buy a bundle, so you can swap them around if you change your mind). But if you have a local, niche or business blog but money’s tight, here are a few of the nicest free themes.
You can use these themes also for a website, which if using WordPress, works out a lot less in hosting fees than hosting a website (and you can make most changes yourself, rather than paying someone to update the site for you). But here are a few nice pretty themes that you may wish to try out, if you can’t afford a paid theme for now. They are really completely free, no catches. Some have ‘bells-and-whistles’ versions you can upgrade to later on, but that’s about it. These companies make their money from selling themes, so giving away free themes is a nice marketing outlet for them to bring people to their sites.
Fresh is a lovely pretty pink theme, which is yours for signing up to the newsletter from Restored 316. You get lots of other goodies as well, for signing up.
Mary Kate is a really pretty free theme, with soft watercolours. This is a simpler version of a paid theme, so you can upgrade to the proper version (and matching graphics) later on, if wished.
