Rust Collections (Buckinghamshire) makes this beautiful reclaimed handmade furniture, all designed to last years. There are beds, stools, benches and tables, all finished with natural wax, for long-lasting items that can be passed down generations. Recycled furniture is expensive, but if you are going to buy handmade furniture, choose ones made from reclaimed wood, to help preserve our forests (97% of which have been lost).
If you can’t afford handmade reclaimed furniture:
- Many local wood recycling organisations sell furniture made or donated from local people.
- End Furniture Poverty lists charities locally and nationwide that can help with providing free or affordable furniture and white goods for people on low incomes. These are usually donated by the public and then checked for fire safety (tags on sofas and mattresses) or PAT-tested (electrical goods).
- Emmaus and Reuse Network have outlets nationwide, and Family Fund can offer grants to families with disabled children.
- Collect Your Old Bed will take beds for you.
