Cupro is a new type of vegan silk, which is getting a lot of attention, within the fashion industry. Conventional silk is made by boiling silkworms, many people are unaware that silkworms have to die, to make silk. Norfolk Natural Living has a great post to learn more about cupro.
However, it’s recently been discovered that ‘peace silk’ (also called ‘ahimsa silk’) is often not much better. This allows silkworms to chew their ways of the cocoons. But because it’s an industry, the silkworms are left on the floor, and many die from starvation.
Cupro cannot be called totally natural (unless it’s waste from organic cotton). But it’s basically the fibre leftover from the cotton-spinning process, so would otherwise go to landfill. It looks and feels like silk, and so is the perfect alternative. You can buy pretty tops and a Dress and flared cupro trousers. Take your pick.
